Jaipur -Unesco World Heritage Site.

The Walled City of Jaipur makes it to the UNESCO World Heritage list, Second Indian City in List.

On 6th July 2019, ‘Pink City’ Jaipur on Saturday made an official entry in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is the 2nd city in the list of world heritage site by UNESCO. Ahmedabad proved luckier, becoming the first World Heritage City from India.jaipur-unesco-world-heritage-site

The decision was taken at the 43rd session of the Unesco World Heritage Committee, which is taking place in Azerbaijan from June 20 to July 10.

In 2018, the Tourism and Culture Minister formally announced that Jaipur’s name being proposed for World Heritage City. The Archaeological Survey of India had in 2015 submitted a proposal to Unesco for the status.

The UNESCO shared the announcement via Twitter. “Just inscribed as @UNESCO #WorldHeritage Site: Jaipur City in Rajasthan, #India. Bravo,” the UN body posted on Saturday.

Welcoming the Unesco announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valour. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur’s hospitality draws people from all over. Glad that this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.”

Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan and the third important City of Golden Triangle tour India was founded in the 18th century by Sawai Jai Singh II. The terracotta hue of Jaipur has its own history. In 1876, the Prince of Wales and Queen Victoria visited India. Since pink denotes the color of hospitality, Maharaja Ram Singh of Jaipur painted the whole city pink in color to welcome the guests. The tradition has been sincerely followed by the residents who are now, by law, compelled to maintain the pink color.
